SSl Certificates

SSL stands for Secure Sockets Layer, a global standard security technology that enables encrypted communication, between a web browser and a web server.

An SSL Certificate on a domain name / website, gives a https url format as opposed the standard http format (ie Depending on the browser being viewed through, you will also see a green padlock / secure notice and a site seal verification logo. Until recently, SSL Certificates were reserved for websites that needed to transfer secure data such as personal details / credit card information – often being in the format of E-Commerce Websites.

These days they are becoming a much more common appearance as search engines / google are using these as an seo ranking factor in an attempt to make the web more transparent – by prioritising “more trusted” websites. This is why you’re seeing a rise in the number of websites using the green padlock / https format.

The https / green padlock format is achieved through the purchase and set up of an SSL Certificate on that domain and are available from Outhouse Media. Please Note that these need be renewed / re-purchased each year for them to remain active / relevant. For more information please contact Outhouse Media directly
